So I was checking him the other day and saw toe bones starting to show on his feet and decided to flip him over and see what progress was being made since top side he looked deflated but not a lot going on otherwise. There were big fat maggots, yay. Oh and one centipede which quickly burrowed back in, which somehow was creepier than seeing the maggots. I didn't know they went for corpses.
So I decided to leave him that side up to give the other side a shot at it and covered the top side in just a thin layer of "mulch" to keep it from drying out and killing the bugs. So there is progress with bugs even. It looks like the tail will be a problem though.
Oh I put "mulch" as it's the left over stuff from when my dad tore out the lawn trying to replant last year so kind of a dirt grass mix partly composted already but he's not actually buried by it. I just wanted to help keep moisture in.
And if you are feeling lost http://www.livingwithanteaters.com/2010/02/good-day-to-dig-up-corpse-plus-fun.html
Bellow has a bit more at the end of the whys and such, if you're feeling freaked out http://www.livingwithanteaters.com/2010/02/puas-night-out.html
Besides by sharing online I have a detailed journal and "witnesses" as to the fact I have a rotting anteater corpse in a tinny cage in the back yard for a specific suppose and not something sinister as it could sound bad in any other context.
We saw butterflies on strawberry flowers in the woods plus a scotch-broom bloom. I took a long walk this time down by my summer swim place. It was warm and sunny. Mom figured it would be good to get me out as I was a little stir crazy and hanging from the door last night when I wasn't clawing at her head to wake her up sometimes to play with me sometimes just because I can.
Mom's note: she's feeling a bit hormonal
Where are we?
She took a couple minutes to get her bearings then came out and got moving.
Going to check the water
I just missed her sitting on the rock for a moment before she moved
It seems a bit cold still
Coming back up
I like photos of her on the rocks since it's something different
Along the beach area
Near her swimming spot
The rock bridge is washed out
That didn't stop Pua
Coming back across
Had to have her turn around but even so she was out for an hour and a half
It's this way Pua
Going down to the beach again
Starting to get tired
Checking out a hole
Tail close up
Tired and dirty
I'm coming out
Exploring the woods
She took a long fast walk so we explored to let her grandma catch up to us
Pua snug in her hammock and a yawn about 30 seconds in.
Not fully awake yet
I was starting to make a batch of anteater food but came into my room and found Pua awake so we took her for a walk.
It was warm out so her sweater same off early.
Looking for bugs
No ants here yet
I found something yummy!
Posing on a branch
Sniffing the air
Disagreeing with me
She wanted to taker the tunnel under the log
Having fun off trail
Coming back up
Between a tree and a log
This stump is rotten
Going in the hallow tree
She didn't stay long she was getting tired.
Heading back
A squirrel
That's his eye glowing
Trilliums
Sleeping on the ride home
What are you rolling in?
Hyzzie likes to roll in clean grass
Quasi rolling
He rolls when Hyzzie makes him think there is a smell he can't smell.
Feeling sleepy
We also had some nice time in the yard today enjoying the sun. Jake can jump like 4 feet in the air for his toy. I caught Pua some flying ants and she got a caterpillar and a grub.
She was shivering so gave her the heating pad and a blanket on top. She was just waking up here.
You got my blue cheese ready?
Everyone likes this new bed
Feeling bashful
Let's try that dance move one more time
Time for a walk
Pua woke up at 12:30 and wanted to go. It was chilly but once we got on the trail)past this mud) she had fun.
Freaky Fungi
In her favorite tree
I think these termites are having a party
Is it possible to get second hand drunk?
Canadians
Nice considering how far away they were.
This back area is interesting
Found something yummy here.
I'm ready for a nap now
Clothes back on and heading back
We better be home soon or else..
On the way out we came up on a fisherman that was trading spots and Pua was running so I called out excuse me and he jumped and said I scared him then saw Pua and asked if she was a possum. Well it's better than aardvark possums and tamanduas are similar size(if possums make it to old age), similar tail and ears and short legs. So we passed him and then she slowed down so he walked out behind us but I held her so he could get a photo to show his kids before letting her in the car.
Hyzzie's tooth
It apparently cracked last night below the gum when she was playing tug of war with Quasi. She made faces and would paw at her mouth sometimes after that but I could see nothing wrong till she spit this out today. She seems much relieved to have it out. Will talk to the vet Monday. It's an incisor.
