Window time
Time to get going
Going for a walk
Starting out slow
Down the stairs
Across the mean bridge
Pausing to bask in the sun
She kept stopping in the sunny spots. Look close, her tail is in one of the holes to anchor her.
Morel mushroom
Anteater in the woods
Flicking her tongue through the crack
Checking out her burrow
Feeling sleepy
I got concerned when I saw the rims of her eyes were milky but they cleared up after and nothing since. Will treat them if it returns. Could be allergies though.
Okay, I'm ready to go
A couple came up the trail the other way while Pua was just sitting hanging out at the open end of her burrow here. They asked if she was an aardvark. No, an anteater. They asked if they could get a photo of her, sure. Took her out but she crawled out of my arms and down my back. She does not like her walks disturbed, even though she was just sitting there before being disturbed. But she tried to walk back on the path and they were standing there. She stopped and looked up at the guy there, like; "dude you're in the way". Then she turned and headed on. So she looked more friendly than she really is. She's not shy or antisocial, she just doesn't care about you.
By the river
Time to climb
She did not get to go much higher in this one
Anteater destruction
This was a little mossy stump. Then Pua tore it open.
Getting tired
Heading for the car
A little grooming
And then she passed out
Tamale Pie - for mother's day
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onion, one small onion
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
1 large can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
4 large tomatoes, cut up
1/3 whole kernel corn, frozen
1 small can (5 ounces) ripe olives, break up whole olives or buy sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
dash black pepper
1 cup grated Cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
.
Crust:
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
2 cups fluid(explained in instructions)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/2 cup grated Cheddar or Mexican blend cheese, for topping (optional)
Preparation:
Brown ground beef with onions and green pepper; drain well, save fluid. Add tomato sauce, tomatoes, corn, olives(drain and save fluid from olive can), garlic, sugar, salt, chili powder and black pepper. Heat to boiling; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for about 10-15 minutes. Drain fluid and save. Continue simmering low while crust is cooked.
In a saucepan, combine cornmeal, salt, chili powder, and add fluid(include olive water from can, if salt is an issue use water to make up the difference if you don't have 2 cups fluid), once warm add butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until tacky or like a dough. Spread abput a 1/3 to a half of the mixture into a baking dish, about 12- x 8-inches. Drain filling one more time and save to add to something else later. Spoon filling over bottom crust; cover with remaining cheese, spoon remaining cornmeal mixture over filling. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes. I placed pan on cookie sheet because it looked like it might boil over and it did a bit.

Hello there
I just found your website and I have to admit that it seemed weird in the beginning but after having a closer look at your entries and pics I gotta say that I'm really impressed! I wouldn't have thought that anyone had an anteater in their home but it looks like it works fine.
Alright, I don't have much more to write but give them a hug from me they are so cute :P
Greetings from Germany

My family and I have been wanting a Tamandua for quite some time now. When my father was younger someone in his neighborhood had a tamandua and he would take it for walks all the time so my dad got used to it. He has also researched its diets, careing, our vet, bathroom use, and grooming needs. The child with the tamandua lived in Florida and taught my dad many things. Please email me back where I can buy one and yes My family and I have researched all of the neccesary needs.

Thank you Toni.
As to Madison.
A serious person would wait for an answer or except their isn't one, not post this in seven different places. And first you are looking for a tamandua and in later posts asking for a pygmy now a tamandua again. If you don't know the difference then you definitely shouldn't have one.
So you realize when they get sick 9 out of ten times it includes them bleeding out? When they get sick it is serious. Stewie died in less that 24hrs from showing his first sign.
That they will make your whole house stink like skunk? I even notice myself smelling a bit skunk when I'm out and about sometimes.
You realize you vet will know less than you do on how to care for them?
You do not know anything about their care or health issues.
That they are escape artists? A friend in Mexico who rescued one recently had one of hers escape and be killed by the neighbors dog. Even Pua got out a couple of times so everything is locked up and bolted shut.
Even many zoos don't really know how to care for them. Just look at the zoo diets they get that are causing health issues like diabetes and spinal lesions from avitaminosis.
I do not tell the world on public boards how to get one because it means disaster and heart ache. These are not puppy dogs you get from a breeder and he will tell you all you need to know. They are very delicate animals and since will have to come from the wild you will be starting with a sick animal. You don't have a baseline for what is normal or not. Is that sound a sneeze or a cough or is that normal? The vet doesn't know, the zoo wont talk to you and doesn't know anyway. So what do you do?
I really don't discourage people from getting one I just tell them the truth on how hard it is. I will always willing give advice on how to care for one and help out where I can and do that A LOT because people have no where else to turn. But tell everyone where to get one would just mean an even bigger mess of people trying to get help on how to care for one they got and don't know how to help.
